Our cognitive and learning disorder evaluations begin at 6-years-old/1st grade.

Yes! We offer several evaluation services for adults.
Adults with neurodevelopmental concerns, such as autism spectrum disorder, may participate in a neurodevelopmental evaluation.
We offer comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for adults with a variety of concerns.
Psychological evaluations for adults with concerns related to mood and emotional functioning are also available.
Our neurocognitive evaluations are designed for adults with concerns such as dramatic brain injuries, Alzheimer’s, dementia, or adults who have experienced a decline in their language, spatial, memory, attention, executive functioning, and adaptive functioning.

Yes, we do! We offer specialized neurocognitive evaluations for adults who have experienced a decline in their functioning.
We are able to test for memory, orientation, ability to manage money, their home, and transportation. We assess for health and safety, social functioning, and problem solving abilities.
Additionally, we assess specific domains of neurocogntive functioning that includes spatial, memory, attention, language, and executive functioning abilities.

This depends on the type of evaluation and abilities of the person participating in the evaluation.
However, testing typically takes approximately 3-6 hours, which includes the clinical interview, psychological and cognitive testing, self- or parent-report meaurses, and intermittent breaks.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so within 48 hours. If you show up 30 minutes or later to your evaluation, it will subsequently be cancelled. additionally, if a client cancel or no-shows within 24 hours on two separate occasions, services with Assess Hawai‘i may be discontinued.

Expect to receive the results of your evaluation approximately 7-10 days after your appointment when we provide you and your family with comprehensive feedback that includes possible diagnoses and treatment plans/recommendations so that you can get the help you deserve.

Autism and Neurodevelopmental evaluations allow us to test for a variety of concerns within the neurodevelopmental period, such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disorders, motor and tic related disorders, movement disorders, developmental delays, and speech disorders.
ADHD evaluations are designed to specifically target symptoms of ADHD, including executive functioning abilities
Learning Disorder evaluations are designed to specifically target academic functioning in the areas of written expression, reading, and mathematics.
Neuropsychological evaluations are our most comprehensive evaluations and allow us to target several neuropsychological concerns related to receptive and expressive language, visual and auditory memory, cognitive and academic abilities, and executive functioning, in addition to emotional functioning.
Neurocognitve evalutions are designed to assess for a decline due to traumatic brain injury, aging, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other reasons for a change in normal functioning.
Psychological evaluations are designed to specifically target emotional and affective functioning (e.g., depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc.)
An assessment of cognitive (e.g., intelligence) functioning is built in to all of our evaluations. ADHD may also be targeted within all of our evaluations.

A comprehensive evaluation will help you find answers to your questions. We specialize in identifying symptoms related to a variety of concerns, which allows us to prescribe treatment recommendations and curate customized treatment plans. Some families choose to share the results of these evaluations with their children’s school so that interventions can be put in place, with other medical professionals, therapists/counselors, and others so that they can get the assistance they need.

We are not medical doctors or prescribers; therefore, we cannot recommend if your child should or should not take medication prior to their evaluation.

We recommend you stay in-office throughout the testing day. Due to administration standards, you will not need to be in the room during testing. However, if you are presenting for an evaluation due to concerns related to autism spectrum disorder, and your child is not school-aged, you will be required to sit in during that part of the evaluation.

Testing typically begins at 9 am. We discuss privacy practices, limits of confidentiality, and the types of tests performed on the day of your evaluation. We then transition to our clinical interview, which typically lasts between 45-90 minutes. We then perform our testing and take intermittent breaks. Once the evaluation is complete, we contact you after we have carefully analyzed the gathered information and results of testing and schedule a time to provide feedback, which is typically 7-10 days after your appointment. Once feedback is complete we send forward you a copy of your clinical evaluation report via a new-certified email or you may choose to have a hard copy mailed to you, or stop by our office to pick up a copy.

It’s important to eat prior to your evaluation. Please feel free to bring your favorite food and/or snacks. You will be offered intermittent breaks throughout your testing day.
